LS engine choices now range from the common hp 4. As for the transmission, swap kits exist for both stick shift and automatic options. LS engines have come a long way since — The LS3, first introduced as the base engine in the Corvette, punched out the original LS1 displacement from 5. The horse Corvette mill subsequently found its way under the hood of the late, great Pontiac G8 GXP, then got the nod as the standard powerplant for the new Camaro SS. This versatile engine is a personal favorite of Dr. You have options for EFI or carbureted setups, and the already-formidable stock internal components can be replaced with GMPP upgrades when you order. The bumpstick installed in this engine features a. Compared to the stock cam, the added duration packs an additional 50 horsepower over the standard LS3 crate engine. Despite the additional power on tap, you still get the peace of mind for this horsepower crate engine that comes from a 24 month or 50, mile warranty, with service provided by any local GM dealer.

When the throttle is depressed, the cable is “pulled” progressively with throttle position. In addition to providing forced downshifts kickdown , and progressively later higher speed upshifts at higher throttle settings, the throttle valve also adjusts main line pressure in the transmission. Operating a transmission with the TV cable out of adjustment, can, not only produce early, or late upshifts, but incorrect line pressure, as well.
What this means, in simple terms, is that TV pressure that is too low, will produce main line pressure that is also too low, and will eventually “burn” the transmission clutches. To adjust, on the throttle linkage you will have three things attached if you have cruise, two if not. One of them is of course for the gas, the one that is for the cruise control has a long slot in it if you have cruise control , and the other is the TV cable which is actually a cable , this is the one you need to adjust.
Article covers everything necessary for making Gas-to-Diesel Engine swaps easier.
Step 1 The pressure gauge must be connected to the transmission at the location shown above. This is a direct fluid passage to the transmissions internal hydraulic pump. This installation will be done while the engine not running. Testing will be done with the engine running. As you tighten the fitting, be sure to end up with the elbow fitting pointing toward the rear of the transmission. This will ensure that the pressure gauge hose will not interfere with your shift linkage while you are test driving.
Step 3 Screw the pressure gauge hose into the 90 degree fitting. Be sure that it’s snug inside of the fitting to prevent leaking. Route the pressure gauge hose above the frame and away from the exhaust.

PCM Reprogramming Services – PCM Programming service for your engine swap project or stock vehicle.I program all swap PCMs to remove anti-theft system that will cause a “start and die” condition. Sometimes this is referred to as VATS.
It practically droped right in. The mount is in the same place as the Turbo so it was a simple job to slide the mount back and use the holes that were already there. As Dale said the R is the same length and the yoke fits too. So it’s certainly the tranny to use on post 64 cars. The earlier Powerglides were a little longer, or maybe shorter. Anyway they’re different so you’ll probably have to shorten or lengthen the driveshaft.
The early glides also used a different spline so you’ll have to change that too.
If your speedometer reads wrong, don’t suffer. A very easy operation. Simply lift the front of the car and find the cable going to the side of the tranny.
LS Swap Guide by LSX Innovations INTRODUCTION. This guide will assist you in making a seamless LS engine swap. Since every LS engine swap is a little different and there are lot of choices to be made, you can use this guide as a reference for ideas and part numbers as you move through the process.
But for the vast majority of would-be swappers, an automatic transmission is the preferred gearbox. From the original two-speed Powerglide, to the three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic and , to the R4 and 4L60E, and finally to the six-speed electronically-controlled transmissions in late model GM RWD cars, many critical dimensions carried over. TCI will build you a TH or TH in configurations from mild to wild, in various tailshaft lengths, and forward or reverse shift patterns and even transbrake-equipped for dragstrip duty.
However, the torque converter bolt pattern and pilot length is different on the LS transmission applications. For owners of classic musclecars already equipped with a serviceable, original automatic, this will be the simplest and least expensive solution when doing an LS swap. Between the two options, a flexplate swap using the original converter will be cheaper, but considering that the new engine is likely going to have a very different powerband than the one coming out, a torque converter with a more aggressive stall speed is likely to be the more desirable way to go.

On a Chevy which valves are exhaust and which are intake? With the valve covers off the rocker that aligns with theexhaust port is the exhaust the other will align with the intakemanifold runner this would be your intake On a with Edelbrock intake and carb if there is a t-shaped nipple coming out of intake behind the carburetor what hooks onto these three openings? You will need rubber hose for them..
If you have power brakes,One goes to the brake booster.
The transmission gave up in my K Luckily a buddy had a 2wd r4 that we were able to get hooked up until we rebuild the old one. Only problem is speedo runs off a different plug so I bought this figuring I’d just learn where the shift points are and figure out speed that way.
I am attributing that to my errors with the tape measure in my haste to get mine measured so I could get back into a warm house, and I am simply using the published specs. First up, let’s tackle overall length and case length. Overall length is important for the final driveshaft length and the case length is important for the fitment to the transmission tunnel. This will require shortening the driveshaft by a matching amount, so I know that no matter what I will be paying a visit to the local driveshaft shop, which I would be doing anyway – see the section on Inputs and Output for details on why.
That means the transmission should fit nicely without any major clearance issues. This is all good news and there are no major problems to solve here. Depending on the specific original and donor transmissions, the full length transmission is anywhere from a tad shorter to tad longer, making that part more a less a wash and a change in driveshaft length all but certain.
That leaves the location of the transmission mount pad relative to the bellhousing. This distance is important because of the transmission crossmember that holds up the back of the transmission. Here are some pictures illustrating this. The next five pictures are of the used TH R4 transmission I purchased to use in my swap with the special extension housing explained in the next section – they should give you some idea of the overall size and shape of the transmission. The final four pictures have excellent views of the mounting pad on the case as well as the mounting pad on the special extension housing that I will be using.
In the first photo in that final group of four taken from “underneath” the rear of the transmission looking up , the case mount has two bolts loosely threaded into it and the tailshaft mount has the remains of the original transmission mount still attached to it in. The last three photos show the rear section of the transmission after I had it mounted on an engine stand in the garage and turned over for a better view.

Please read to the bottom, there is a lot of important info I need to know to properly program your PCM. Bottom of this page has shipping address and a link to PayPal for payment. I have gotten a lot of questions if I was still doing programming, answer is YES, I have not stopped doing programming, nor do I plan to at all.
This is my full time job. COM was created in Please let me know if PCM does not match the engine exactly. GM used different injector sizes, fuel rail types etc across engine’s and years.
Diagnosing GM Transmissions
The throttle body looks remarkably like a Holley carb, which is great for anyone wanting classic looks and modern performance. Much of the system is encased right inside the throttle body—and that includes the ECU. It flows cfm and can support up to horsepower. Holley figured out a way to mount the ECU within the throttle body. Internally, the throttle body is fitted with four injectors just like the Stealth system.
It incorporates a built-in fuel-pressure regulator pre-set at
The THR4 is a stronger tranny, a disadvantage is slightly higher ratios for all gears (except 3rd of course) I say “disadvantage” for those of us who want to get a little more gas mileage out of it.
Next Page of R4 info. I am not a transmission repairman. I use a R4 in my truck and have accumulated the following information that might help you. A lot of problems with this transmission after installation are due to improper TV cable hookup and adjustment. I have that info here along with wiring information for the lockup converter. If you are having internal problems with the transmission I’m sorry, but I can’t help, so please don’t e-mail me about those kind of problems.
You need to talk to a repairman or you might trying posting on Rodder’s Roundtable Forum and post the question to Tony board name is Crosley.
